Party Poker Now Offers Side Bets

Side bets are a new and fun way to place wagers based on the outcome of the flop on real money tables. Whether you're a seated player or are just watching, you can place a side bet on real money Hold'em and Omaha tables.

A side bet is a bet on whether or not the flop will be all red or all black. (The flop is the first three community cards that are dealt in Hold'em and Omaha.) All red means that all three cards in the flop will be red (diamonds and/or hearts) and all black means that all three cards in the flop will be black (spades and/or clubs). Side bets that are placed will be valid for the next hand that is being dealt.
If you place a side bet on red then:

  • You will win if the flop is all red (diamonds and/or hearts)

  • You will lose if at least one of the cards in the flop is black (spades and/or clubs)

  • Your bet will be returned to you if the flop is not dealt

If you place a side bet on black then:

  • You will win if the flop is all black (spades and/or clubs)

  • You will lose if at least one of the cards in the flop is red (diamonds and/or hearts)

  • Your bet will be returned to you if the flop is not dealt

PartyPoker.com WSOP Winners

The largest poker tournament in history wrapped up on Saturday, July 16, 2005 after nine days of nerve-racking play. The total prize pool in this year's World Series of Poker in Las Vegas was $52 million, a poker world record, collected from a field of 5,619 players. The top nine players all received prizes of more than $1 million, and two of those players qualified online at PartyPoker.com.

Aaron Kanter

Aaron Kanter Rides $55 WSOP Step Tournament on PartyPoker.com to $2 Million 4th Place finish in WSOPThe 27-year-old from Elk Grove, CA, known as "AK," is a former bank loan officer who was playing in his very first WSOP. Kanter holds a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies from Chico State and was born in California’s central valley. He knocked out last year’s champion Greg Raymer during the tournament. Kanter, now a professional player, began playing poker in high school for dimes and quarters. He's been playing regularly on PartyPoker.com for the past two years. Going into the final day, Kanter was the chip leader with $10,700,000 but was knocked out at 4:00 a.m. when his Ace-9-9, was topped by "Tex" Barch's three jacks on the river.
Kanter, still overwhelmed by the experience, said: "It felt unreal walking into a room with 200 tables and thousands of players, then working my way down to 20, then 10, two and finally, the final table." Kanter, who plans to use his prize money to secure his future with property and investments, will be one of the featured players joining the PartyPoker.com Million V in March 2006.

Andy Black

PartyPoker.com was also the conduit for another player who made the final table. Andrew Black from Ireland won $1.75 million and finished one place below Kanter. To qualify, Black entered a $300 + $28 satellite. Black, nicknamed "The Monk," had been a professional poker player who competed in the 1997 and 1998 WSOPs, but the pressure of high stakes poker and the disappointment of one last bad beat caused him to retire from the game. Black, who holds a law degree from Trinity College, ultimately went to India to become a Buddhist and devote his life to charitable fund raising. Living the aesthetic life of a monk, he lived on minimal money. However, after nearly six years, he returned to Ireland with only €100 euros and started playing poker again on PartyPoker.com, where he was able to build up his bankroll and his self-confidence. Looks like it paid off!

AbsolutePoker Pro Mark Seif Takes Lead at 36th Annual World Series of Poker Winning Back-to-Back Championships and Beating Defending World Champion

AbsolutePoker Pro Mark Seif Takes Lead at 36th Annual World Series of
Poker Winning Back-to-Back Championships and Beating Defending World Champion
Greg "Fossilman" Raymer

Seif Tops 2,013 Players, the Third Largest Field in WSOP
History

Las Vegas (June 27, 2005) – AbsolutePoker (http://www.absolutepoker.com/main.asp?host=a_77a_5391b_2711) pro Mark Seif
became the first person at this year's World Series of Poker (www.worldseriesofpoker.com) to win
two championships this year, placing him second in the money and first in the
running for the WSOP's "Player of the Year" award. He is also currently ranked
10th in the World according to CardPlayer (www.cardplayer.com).

He won his first gold and diamond WSOP bracelet in the $1,500 Limit Hold'em
Shootout Friday June 17 for $181,330 and collected his second bracelet last
Friday in the $1,500 NL Hold'em event where he bested 2,013 players, the third
largest field in WSOP history. Seif's victory, which included beating defending
world champion Greg "Fossilman" Raymer, netted him $611,145. Earlier in the
month he placed 53rd in the $1,500 No Limit Hold'em winning $7,475 bringing his
2005 WSOP winnings to date to $799,950.

Seif said, "This has been one of the most thrilling experiences of my life --
it's really just starting to sink in that I've done so well. For the last five
years, I've been trying to win a bracelet at the WSOP so this is a significant
accomplishment for me. It's also a big deal for my mom who maybe will start
saying I'm a pro poker player instead of a lawyer. When I told her I'd won the
first event, she reminded me that my sister Christina just graduated from
college and was off to Harvard Law School. I guess you could say it was all
around a great week for the Seifs!"

Seif, who graduated in the top 10 percent of his class at Loyola Law School
and became an expert trial lawyer in sexual harassment law for national Newport
Beach firm Fisher & Phillips, switched to playing poker professionally in
May 2001. "I had been playing high-stakes poker in public card rooms for many
years when I won more than a half a million in cash games at the 2001 WSOP. That
pretty much made my decision for me."

According to Gian Perroni, AbsolutePoker's poker room manager, "Mark's
back-to-back wins place him in an elite crowd. While the records are being
verified, this may be all-time first in WSOP history and certainly no one has
won back-to-back titles in fields this large. If he wins again, he'll become the
third person in history to win three bracelets in one year. Mark is one of the
best players out there and word is out that he is the one to beat. We are proud
to have him as part of Team AbsolutePoker."

Nine players competed In Friday's event to win the WSOP bracelet and the
$611,145 top prize.

  1. Mark Seif, Incline Village, NV $611,145
  2. Minh Nguyen, Lake Elsinore $329,975
  3. Bill Gazes, Miami, FL $202,790
  4. Webber Kang, Dallas, TX $175,010
  5. Peter Lee, Queens, NY $147,230
  6. Greg "Fossilman" Raymer, Stonington, CT $119,450 (Defending World Champion

  7. Steve Carter, Frisco, TX $91,670
  8. Steve Rassi, Morton, IL $63,895
  9. David "DevilFish" Ulliot, Hull, U.K. $47,225

According to Nolan Dalla, WSOP media director, "Mark Seif has paid his dues
in this game. For years Mark has done it all. He's won several tournaments, made
several final tables and finished high in the money several times. Up to now,
the only thing that has eluded him has been the gold bracelets at the WSOP. Mark
has not only fulfilled that dream, but he did it twice. He now joins an elite
group of poker players who have won twice. It is an honor well deserved."

CardPlayer Magazine posted the game's progress and the following is the
play-by-play from the log for final and winning hand number 184:

"Nguyen has the button, he limps, Seif raises to $100,000, Nguyen raises to
$600,000, Seif pushes all in, and Nguyen calls. Nguyen shows Ad-10d, but Seif
has pocket kings (Kc-Kd). Nguyen is the shorter stack, facing possible
elimination on this hand. The flop comes Kh-7h-4c, and Seif has flopped a set of
kings. The only way Nguyen will survive is if he catches a jack and a queen on
the last two cards for a straight. The turn card is the 9c, and Nguyen is
drawing dead. Minh Nguyen is eliminated in second place, earning $329,975.

"Mark Seif wins Event #22 ($1,500 No-Limit Hold'em), earning $611,145 and his
second World Series of Poker bracelet this week."

PartyPoker.com Million V

This year's PartyPoker.com™ Million is over and that can only mean one thing - it's time to start planning for 2006! With an estimated prize pool of $10 million, PartyPoker.com™ Million V is going to be their most amazing tournament yet.

As every year, the PartyPoker.com™ Million V is going to be a LIMIT Hold'em tournament. The cruise is going to take place from the 11th of March to the 18th of March 2006. More details will be posted at a later stage.

With the estimated $10 million prize pool they have planned for next year's tournament, you're going to want to be part of all the action! The best way to ensure you're at that final table is to qualify online through PartyPoker.com™. Hone your skills and secure your place on next year's cruise: play in the second set of Semi-Finals in July.

Of course, the celebration has ended after this year's electrifying PPMIV final, which saw six players battle it out for first place. Speaking of firsts, this tournament marked the first time during the regular season World Poker Tour™ that two players would be able to top the million-dollar mark.

With a total prize pool of $7.43 million and 735 players, PPMIV really was anyone's to win when the cruise ship Oosterdam sailed from San Diego pier. However, on the final table, it all came down to two players and a calculating battle of youth versus maturity. Youth won out as Michael Gracz, a 24-year-old recent graduate of North Carolina State, outlasted 54-year-old rocket engineer David Minto of Alamogordo, New Mexico to claim the $1.5 million first prize. Minto had to console himself with the $1 million second place award.

Of the 735 players who took part in the world's largest Limit Texas Hold'em tournament, 668 qualified online at PartyPoker.com™. These online qualifiers won their $10,200 buy-in to the finals and a cruise for two by winning preliminary online satellite tournaments with entries starting from $8. In addition to Gracz and Minto, more than 180 players cashed in on the massive prize pool.

  • You can request a re-buy by clicking on the Re-buy button on the game screen.

Crash Settlement policy impact.

  • With each re-buy and add-on the total chips in the tournament will increase. The total chips in re-buy tournaments will be equal to sum of all players 'player's starting chips (including extra starting chips, if any)' + sum of chips given to all players thru Re-buy request + sum of chips given to all players thru add-on request. The total chips in the tournament will keep on incrementing as and when players make a re-buy request and the final number will calculated only when the add-on period is over. If a tournament crashes during the add-on period, the exact count of total chips in the tournament at the time of crash including the chips added into the tournament due to re-buy and add-on request. Party Poker will use this count of total chips to distribute the balance prize money.

The London Open

This August, World Poker Exchange will be taking England by storm with their exclusive $2,000,000 London Open, and all World Poker Exchange players on the inside track for a seat at the final table.

As you probably know, online players, even rookies, are building up a strong record in high-stakes tournament poker:

In 2003, Chris Moneymaker played his way into the WSOP championship event, and walked away with $2.5 million.

In 2004, Gerry Drehobl won $365,000 at the WSOP after playing online poker for only six months.

8 of the 14 final tables on the 2004 World Poker Tour featured amateur players who'd qualified through online satellites.

But to win, you need a seat at the tournament - and there are only two ways to get one: play your way in through one of the exclusive World Poker Exchange satellites; or start accumulating Frequent Player Points. (Of course, you could also write a check for $10,000 . . .)

Route 1: Satellite tournaments begin on April 21st. You can enter selected qualifying tournaments for as little as $1. All you have to do is win one, and you've taken your first step toward turning $1 into $2,000,000.

Route 2: All World Poker Exchange players with 1,000 Frequent Player Points get a free shot at playing their way into the London Open.

Mathew Cherachal: $1,060,000
David Minto: $1,600,000
Paul Darden: $500,000

By 10:30pm, Paul Darden has been knocked out. He had gone all in, showed 7-7 but his set was beaten by chip leader Michael.

Chip count:
Adam Csallany: $2,000,000
Mathew Cherachal: $750,000
David Minto: $1,600,000
Michael Gracz: $3,000,000

With only four players remaining, the limits increase to $100,000-$200,000 and the blinds are now $50,000-$100,000.

By 11:35pm, after a series of million-dollar hands, Adam Csallany goes out in fourth place with $500,000. Adam had quite a run but his aggressive play was capped when he was check raised out of some big hands in late action. We are now down to three players.

Chip count:
David Minto: $1,700,000
Mathew Cherachal: $1,500,000
Michael Gracz: $4,300,000

Just before midnight, Mathew Cherachal bowed out in third place, taking home a tidy $700,000. Mathew, a regular player at PartyPoker.com, won his seat at the final table for just $32. However, he'd been on short stack and had been getting bullied left and right by chip leader Michael Gracz's aggressive pre-flop raises. Mathew finally got a hand and was all in pre-flop with A-Q. Michael called with his 9-8. The flop came K-5-5, which kept Mathew in the lead. The turn came 4 and the river was a boon for Gracz, the 9. The winning pair of 9s locked up at least $1 million for Gracz. He was now in commanding chip position with $5.6 million going heads up against David Minto.

Chip count:
David Minto: $1,750,000 approx.
Michael Gracz: $5,600,000 approx.

Going into the final heads up action David and Michael reveal their screen names:
Michael – NC
KidDavid – Mad Dog X2

Just before 1:00am, Michael raises preflop and David re-raises. There's now $960,000 in the pot preflop. Flop is A-Q-J rainbow. Both players bet $160,000. Turn is 4d. David bets $320,000. River is Ad. David bets and Michael re-raises David all in for his remaining $640,000. David doubles up with the diamond flush.

On a J-8-6 flop David bets and Michael raises. Turn is 2d. Michael checks. David bets $320,000. Michael re-raises to $640,000. David calls. River is the Kh. Michael bets $320,000 and David calls. Michael has flopped two pair with his J-8 and takes down a huge pot.

David now has $1,750,000 and Michael has about $6.5 million.

Heading into the final stretch, Michael and David are $1.2 million into the pot preflop. The flop comes 10-8-5. David bets and Michael calls. Turn is 7 and both players bet the minimum. The river is the 8. David bets and is called. His A-7 is outkicked by Michael's A-9. This leaves David with only $40,000 so it's showdown poker for the last hand of the PartyPoker.com Million IV as David cannot cover the blinds.

Michael turns over J-2 suited and David has 10-5. The flop is J-J-5. Michael has flopped a set of Js, and this holds up to earn him $1.5 million dollars and the PartyPoker.com Million IV championship title.

We caught up with David after the final round. "I'm married with three kids," he said, "and one of them is the same age as Michael! Winning $1 million probably won't change our lives, although it'll double out net worth! We'll probably save some and give some away."

In between celebrations, we asked Michael what he thought of the whole event. "I've had a lot of fun on the PPM4," he said. "It's one of the best tournaments on the WPT, although I swear everyone on the WPT is an alcoholic!" When asked by Linda Johnson for tips and advice, he replied: "Get lucky!"
